Kuehne+Nagel has signed a lease with Fraport for a new 7,600-square-metre cargo facility at Frankfurt Airport’s CargoCity South.

The development will bring the forwarder’s total space in the area to more than 20,000 square metres. Fraport will build the warehouse and retain it as part of its property portfolio, with completion and handover planned for the end of 2028.

The facility is intended to improve cargo transfers between the terminal and aircraft stands, reduce handling turnaround times and connect Kuehne+Nagel’s operations more efficiently.

It will support customers in healthcare, semiconductors, high technology and cloud infrastructure. Martin Schaefer, Kuehne+Nagel’s senior vice president of air logistics in Germany, described Frankfurt as a key gateway in the company’s global network.

The project has received DGNB gold-standard certification for its environmental standards. Planned features include LED lighting, heat pumps, electric vehicle charging points, smart meters and rooftop solar panels supplying the airport grid.

The development forms part of Fraport’s CargoHub masterplan, which focuses on optimising existing space, developing new space, and improving digital systems and processes.
